Begin by reading the affirmation. Read the assigned Psalm for the week once or twice and take a few moments to center yourself on God, relaxing and paying close attention to your breathing. Pray for yourself and others, allowing time for God to place others in your thoughts. Read the day's assigned Scripture slowly and reflectively, perhaps more than once, taking time to allow thoughts and images to form in your mind. Reflect on the Scripture, perhaps writing in your journal. Close with the statement of response.
Affirmation:
Jesus calls me, I must follow, Follow him today;
When his tender voice is pleading How can I delay?
Follow, I will follow thee, my Lord,
Follow ever passing day.
My tomorrows are all known to Theee,
Thou wilt lead me all the way

My response: The waters closed in over me; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped around my head at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. (Jonah 2: 5-6)
